UGH! GAWD it's hot! I hear ya OP! I miss the crisp morning air. Here it's like taking a deep breath into a cotton ball. A stinky one at that. (is there something funky we need to know about in the air?)

Sorry, I vowed not to complain but I just can't take it with this heat.

Well, it's not all bad. I brought my new bicycle home today which I plan on riding from now on. Drastic situations call for drastic measures. HAD TO have the bike to compensate for the heat. yah, I justify. Riding it makes everything ok. If that makes me materialistic then so be it! YaY for bikes!!!

Sorry, I divert.

It's lousy outside - but in about 2 months, when the folks in Michigan and Chicago are excited about their first snow, I'll giggle like a 16 year old prom date and think: Ahhh, fall in South Texas.

I will then pull out my last batch of frozen pork tamales, some deer meat and have some tamales verde, homemade venison chili, and jalapeno cornbread with my neighbors. We have cocktails and play dominos until about 1:00 AM. It's a nice party, all while listening Austin music on KGSR.

Its August 25th, and El' Nino is supposedly coming. It's all good in Austin.

I'm right with the OP. The heat is driving me insane. And that "average high" thing is bull. It's over 100 degrees every day! It should list 100 as the average temp, not 95.

I feel like I live on the sun. I've been here for 19 years and although I have gotten used to it, I still hate it. I like Austin, but I really miss having four distinct seasons.

I just got back from San Francisco a few weeks ago (my first time there), and by far the best part was the weather. There were highs in the mid 60's with lots of sun. Our hotel had windows that opened, so we slept with the windows open, something I won't do here because a) it's usually entirely too hot and b) I'm afraid of some huge Africanized poisonous insect getting in.

BTW, the last time I slept with the windows open, I was bitten by a scorpion - in my bed.

These 100 degree days are pretty unusual. I would say it is more typical to be in the low to mid 90's.

Illinois has scorpions too. As well as other venomous creatures.

Illinois' Venomous Creatures Strike Back

You can't get away from them, no matter where you go.

Yup! Now I'm saying: wow, glad it didn't work out re. relocating to Austin. I could never handle the heat. In January, I will be saying, wow, I'm so disappointed it didn't work out-the weather in Austin is beautiful and the Chi weather sucks. Human nature at its finest.
