What's the purpose of your visit? If you're coming just to have fun, I'd recommend downtown. There's plenty to see and do and eat within walking distance. Hotels downtown aren't cheap though so if you have a particular budget in mind, let us know and we can recommend some other options. If you want to explore the town and surrounding areas, we can make some other recommendations as well.
