I am soon to be nursing grad from Florida, where I have grown up. I've really been looking into moving to Austin after graduation this April but know nothing about where to live in the city and I don't know anyone here!

I've been speaking with nurse recruiters from Seton and St. Davids to discuss my chances of even getting a job as a new nurse in Austin, because obviously I don't want to move there only to find out nowhere is hiring.

What areas of town do you reccomend for young grads (I'm 22!) to live in that is not too "undergrad"ish but still has a lot of young people to meet. I prefer the "fratty" crowd but I'm really open to anything.

Just kinda want to move on a whim and start a new adventure while I'm still young enough to be able to.

Thanks in advance for the help!

What is the 'fratty' crowd? Have you been to Austin before?

She'll have to live close to UT for that.

Use the Forum search tool for "nursing". There are several similar threads to this one this year.

Search the forums as CptRn suggests. I'd just add that pay is much less here in Austin (and competition higher) than in any other major Texas city.

As for neighborhoods, I'd recommend the Triangle area (north of UT/west of Hyde Park). It's practically walking distance from Seton Main and the Heart Hospital. Seton University Medical (Brackenridge) and St David's are also an easy drive from there.

I would suggest the Arboretum area of town. If you prefer places with coffeeshops and dives and the sort then I would suggest south central. It is always best, though to find living arangements closest to work as traffic on some days can be horrible. Austin is a really young city in regards to demographics so no matter where you live at in town there will be plenty of young folks around to hang with and explore the city. Good luck

You could always try the west campus area. Doesn't get any frattier than that.

I can't imagine what anyone out of college would want from a 'fratty crowd'. Seems like it would be a time to grow up.
