My girlfriend and I are heading to Austin and then over to San Angelo the week of April 17-24 to explore a couple of job opportunities in hopes of relocating. While there, we want to take advantage of great activities that may be going on in the area, maybe a rodeo, festival, market, etc - any recommendations on what may be going on during that week or some sights that we shouldn't miss while visiting? We're all about everything country western, but want to just absorb everything we can. Thanks so much!

Eeyore's Birthday is a really unique Austin festival, it's on the 24th -

Eeyores Birthday Party

I'm sure there is much more, but that's the first that came to mind when you mentioned the dates..

Hum . . . the Star of Texas rodeo will be long past by April. There are always farmer's markets on Saturday, in downtown Austin and out in Sunset Valley.

Austin Farmers Market

Take a stroll on South Congress Avenue (don't miss Allan's Boots) and don't forget to go to the Broken Spoke

The Broken Spoke - Best Honky Tonk Music in Texas

And then there barbecue . . .

Thanks so much for the great suggestions! We just booked our tickets today and now we're counting down to our trip. We can't wait to be in Texas. We have 2 country western stores here that are crazy expensive because there's not much demand in south Florida. Any suggestions for the best places to head to and start stocking up our new wardrobe? First stop = hats!!!

Any car shows ever happen around the area, too?

Eeyore's was the first thing that came to mind for me, as well.

If you're into country and western, you might want to make a point of going by The Broken Spoke, as well.

And, yes, we have car shows.

I hope you won't be disappointed in Austin because it isn't very Country and Western. In fact, it's pretty rare to see people wearing cowboy hats. But, you can find some Western wear at Cavenders. Also, check out Allen's Boots on S. Congress, and if you're into really, really nice boots, check out Heritage Boot, downtown on West Eighth.

Also, check out Capitol Saddlery (used to be downtown, now out north). Haven't been to the one out north, don't know if they could possibly maintain the ambiance of the original location without being there for decades, but it's sure worth dropping by to see!
