My list of places I'd most want to live if I had to (or wanted to) leave Austin, in no particular order:

* Sebastopol (Sonoma County, CA)
* Seattle
* Portland, OR
* Athens, GA
* Denver-Boulder
* Los Angeles
* Oakland
* Santa Barbara

How about you?

I forgot about San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles --- definitely a nice area, but expensive like everything else within 50 miles of the CA coast.

And southern France would probably be my choice for overseas. Maybe New Zealand.

And Hawaii. Probably the big island...

I forgot about Colorado. Maybe not a big city, but I think I could love the surroundings there.

If I was married, Louisville, KY (came close to deciding to move there instead of Austin). Not really a single city IMO, but it's a fun little city.

As a single, (and if I made a lot more money) I probably would stay here in LA or perhaps head to San Diego. One of the big reasons I am heading to Austin is that I could afford the lifestyle I want, vs. in LA I couldn't.

Oversees, Tel Aviv. Decided not to pursue a 10 month program in Israel.

Hmm... I would definitely stay west of the Mississippi, in most cases, such as:

San Diego, CA
Colorado Springs, CO
Santa Fe, NM

But I also wouldn't mind checking out Charleston, SC.

Abroad would be Australia or New Zealand.
