This is my first year planting bulbs (tulips, etc...) in TX and was wondering when they usually come up. I do NOT have a green thumb, but I always thought it was after the last freeze when it has been warm for a few weeks. Anyone know?

I have some Amaryllis and I think they will start to get green again in the next 2 months.

Depends on the bulbs. I've got some (iris) that are greening up right now, but not flowering yet (no doubt due to the 14 degree weather and the snow being so recent), but I wouldn't be surprised if they start popping buds in the next two to three weeks, based on how they look. But before that, we've got some tiny purple flowers that come up from bulbs, don't know what they are as they were here when we got here, think some sort of tiny hyacinth, that magically appear overnight that should be blooming shortly. (No hang around waiting for the bud to open, just BANG! and there they are.)

Some don't bloom until summer, oddly enough. At our rent house in town we have a long terrace that is nothing but different kinds of iris, planted by the original owner some 35 years ago in such a way that there's always something blooming throughout blooming season, spring to fall.

We had a hyacinth and a daffodil come up in our back yard two weeks ago. They even survived the snow and are still blooming.

There was a good article in the statesman about what bulbs grow well in Austin, when they bloom and when to plant them. I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: here it is http://www.statesman.com/life/garden...=rss_gardening

kinda off topic, if you ever want to see an amazing sight, go to the tulip festival just north of Seattle during late March and early April. Imagine acres and acres of some of the most vivid colors you will ever see.
