Maybe it will open up some commercial space .

But seriously, it depends on where the cuts are, as much as anything. Dell has been in a slow decline for quite a while now, with the changes in the PC market....

If all those were in RR that might take a small bite out of the housing market

All those cuts won't be in Round Rock! And Round Rock has worked very hard over the last decade to diversify away from Dell.

We could use a small tap on the brakes but I doubt this will even do that.

My youngest son was laid off from Dell December 30th after 9 years exemplary employment. He got a decent severance package, but is still looking hard for another job.

I feel bad for anyone getting cut, but from the Dell workers I have ever dealt with for the most part, they seem to be used to it/almost expect it?? It is not the be all and end all of Round Rock like it used to be and does not define the area any longer...all that said IMHO of course.

Didn't say they would be. Just that if they did hit here, it's a significant enough lay-off that it would likely have a measurable impact.

I think just about everyone in Austin knows someone who has been laid off from Dell. Nothing new.
