Wake in Fright. Easily the best piece of Australian TV or cinema. Probably the only one that isn't made of cringe.

Its depiction of the life amongst n-th generation locals is still dead on.

A very good Australian series that won't appeal to everyone was the true crime program Crime Investigation Australia. It was hosted by Steve Liebmann and is not for the faint hearted but an excellent program. It covered some famous and major crimes in Australia like the Beaumont children case and Anita Cobby.

The Underbelly series was also very good. This was a crime drama program based on true cases.
