Brisbane is hoping to become the 3rd city in Australia and 4th city in the Southern Hemisphere to host the Summer Olympics Games.
It is Australia New World City hosted the 1982 Commonwealth Games the 1988 World Expo and the 2001 Goodwill Games. It is the fastest growing market in Australia and it will share the Venues with the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

I wish Brisbane well if that's what the citizens there want. That said, when you consider the security expenses to host the Olympics today, the cost to construct venues (many of which could become white elephants after the games), as well as the demands of the IOC and criticism they levy if you, God forbid, seek creative ways of financing these expenditures (e.g. corporate sponsorships -- see IOC criticism of 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta), then it's beyond me why cities even bother to bid. The IOC, in my opinion, is about as evil as FIFA.
Apparently Brisabne has only being short listed by the Australian Olympic Commitiee as the Australia city most likely to launch a potential bid for 2024?
No formal bid has being made to the IOC from what i can find, Personally I could not ever see the IOC handing the games to such a small city and it would be a massive waste of our money.
Still Brisbane/Gold Coast has almost twice as many people as Qatar which was given the Soccer World Cup, so you never know.

Brisbane is too small to be able to afford it, and probably lacks the infrastructure. Unless the Qld government wanted to spend billions improving infrastructure for 2 weeks of sport it'll be a non-starter. Financially, Queensland is hardly in a position to be able to afford to pay. Sydney and Melbourne are realistically the only cities that can afford to host such an event.
Anyway, as BCC said: I think Brisbane is too small. Commonwealth games are one thing... Olympics another.
I doubt it'll be in Australia in 2024....

That's what I hate about it. It's like taking all the good countries out of the Olympics. You're left with the Isle of Man v Malta in the Bronze medal playoff for lawn bowls. Riveting stuff!

I wonder what will happen with the Commonwealth games on TV- Channel 10 got really low ratings the last time it was on.
Also I support Brisbane going for it, though I'd rather Sydney get it again :P
