^^ thanks mate

this interchange will be bigger and more complex than anything in Australia. Although there are numerous 3 level stacks in Melbourne and one 4 level stack in Sydney, none of those will compare to the complexity of this interchange!

Soon we'll fie 4-level nd out if a proposed cross-city tunnel will be constructed, this will cross an elevated expressway and if approved, we'll no doubt see an impressive network of elevated ramps in that area.

I live in that other hot place that starts and ends with the letters A!

It is weird looking at the Australian freeways and seeing things reversed compared to here in Arizona.

BTW: a VH 'Chugga' lives 1/2 mile (1 KM) from me complete with proper Az license plates. RHD needless to say; we have scads of right hookers around the Phx area.

It's interesting to see photos of the highways there in Melbourne. When I was younger I was a highway-enthusiast, but since obtaining an education in urban design I have come to hate their presence in the central parts of cities. Here in the US, they have obliterated entire neighborhoods and serve as massive physical and psychological barriers between urban districts (especially between CBD's and waterfronts). Having explored Melbourne via Google Maps it seems to me that the highways there have been kept relatively in check near the CBD (no loop completely surrounding it, nice long tunneled sections). I hope to live in Melbourne someday and if/when I do, I hope to rarely see any of these highways except for when I am making excursions out of the city. I intend to live near the center without a car and utilize public transport as much as possible. Are there car sharing programs in Melbourne (similar to Zipcar here in the US)?

SAB, have you been to the US? You would marvel at our highways. Check out this website, it's like highway-porn:

^^ I've seen that site, it is indeed orgasmic. In the 1960's, we had US highway engineers down here drafting a huge freeway network for Melbourne, but ofcourse local greenie/enviro-terrorist infestation cried foul and the state government at the time cancelled the whole thing

Melbourne actually had barely any freeways up until about 10-15 years ago. It was an embarrassment and something that any other developed country in the world would laugh at. Luckily the situation is improved now with vigourous freeway construction over the last decade.

Love seeing the infrastructure in Australia. Very cool.
I'm from the US, but have visited Sydney as well as Brisbane and Cairns/Port Douglas.

Sydney seemed to have a pretty decent freeway system when I was last there and despite driving on the wrong/opposite side of the road I found it relatively easy to navigate. I remeber there being lots of signage warning of the dangers of "drink-driving"..... as here in the US we say "drunk-driving"..... anyway, good stuff, people. Post more pics, please love seeing it. I like to picture myself there/.
