Folau doesn't really have the right to grand stand his religious belief to a public audience. Besides contractual considerations, using his religion in what was potentially hate speech against a legal segment of society is intolerable.
When being paid shed loads of money being in all reality a public performer requires a mature and sensible approach to such a social role, that can indeed influence and incite to homophobic hatred or give a sort of thumbs up to those that see no wrong in committing serious violations on such a person for no other reason than their sexuality.

No question right move getting rid of him. Just hope he doesn't gain a hefty pay out in the process.

Of course he does. He has paid a price for it under his contract, but there is no question he has the right to express his views.

What is of greater concern to our society is that people think he shouldn't be able to express his religious views. Let's just call it hate speech

Should Margaret Court’s name be erased from history?

Margaret Court is entitled to her opinions, as she is retired and not under contract - she can virtually say what she likes.
That is within not breaking any laws.
Israel Folau is contracted to Rugby Australia, and has to abide by their rules.
I personally think it is an overreaction by RA, but Izzy will not back down over this, and they have made this decision and set a precedent to sack someone over online comments.

He can of course say them without danger of facing a firing squad, but the question is should he? My take is a definite no if it is to denigrate a group within society while in a position to possibly influence, being a role model to some and not a politician. He is paid a shed load of money for the role he plays and to which there are plenty of non public roles he can take out where he is free to express his bias.

Of course she can, but it doesn't make the voicing of her opinions free from consequence. Victoria is a very liberal state, they are also the owners of that stadium. Victorians are as entitled to their opinion on who their stadia are named after as Court is entitled to voice her opinions.

Exactly. Being retired and no longer a public figure gives her the right to be as bloody minded in expressing bias I suppose as she wishes. Is anyone really interested what a past has been has to say in her dotage anyway? As you say no longer under contract and no obligations towards anyone but herself.

That is a good point of consideration that escaped me. Under those conditions a certain responsibility should be enacted on before shooting off a personal bias it may well be argued.

Is there a conservative state in Australia?
