Yes, you can, although it's not easy. The Netherlands does not encourage its citizens to hold dual nationality, so as a Dutch citizen living in Australia, this has been an issue for a long time, until a few years ago, when the European Union rules were altered and as a result the Dutch rules were made less stringent (at least, that's what I was told). If you're eligible and you want to apply for citizenship in Australia (I'm sorry, but I don't know about New Zealand), you need to ensure that your Dutch passport hasn't expired before you become an Australian citizen. And basically, keeping your Dutch passport current (i.e. renewing it every 10 years) appears to be the only condition to keeping your Dutch nationality, but also holding Australian citizenship. I have lived in Australia now for nearly 22 years and have only held dual citizenship for the last four years, due to the difficulties around it. I haven't been back to the Netherlands since gaining my Australian citizenship, but have been told that travel is straightforward on either passport.
There's more info on the Dutch embassy website too.

Thanks

If you have taken Australian citizenship without informing the Dutch government you might lose your Dutch nationality. There are only certain circumstances under which the Dutch will allow you to hold dual citizenship..
