Doesn't seem fair to Grubb (drivers, motor, road, nascar)

Tony Stuart wins the Sprint cup championship and fires his crew chief.
I am not advocating this but if Carl Edwards had just passed one more car all season long he would have won the Championship.
Did the wrong CC get fired?
The more I think about the Grubb situation, the more I disagree with all of the "poor Darian" chatter.
It's a competitive country we live in. If I didn't share the same philosophy or sense of direction with my boss, we would certainly part ways at some point. This is regardless of the results.
In Darian's case, it was no secret that a change was going to be made at the end of the season. He and Smoke continued to work together and had a fantastic run through the Chase. However, they still appeared to be on different pages with their visions of getting the job done in the future.
So as expected, DG was let go.
Most importantly to me is BOTH parties handled it with class and professionalism. Even through the week in Las Vegas, both DG and Smoke held their heads high and didn't fall into the easy trap of sniping and backbiting. It appears the industry has a high regard for DG and it was mentioned many times through the ceremonies.
It looks like the benefit to him will be the respect he has earned in Nascar by being a Champion CC and by being a professional and respectable man. I think he has a bright future that has been put in play by this turn of events. Apparently, he has his pick of job offers awaiting him AND he has a standing offer to return to Hendrick in non-CC capacity. Good deal for him and his family!!!
I would also be remiss if I didn't say that my respect for Carl grew immensely through the Chase this year. Unlike another driver who seemed to fail at acting mature this year (cough, cough...18), Carl really stepped it up on the track and in being a good guy. To come so close and wear a smile the way he does speaks volumes to me. I thought it was cool how he was the first to congratulate Smoke after some of the wins on pit road. He's going to be a Champ in the Cup series soon!

I agree and felt early on in the seaon DG would not be around in '12. This is lack of "big picture" thinking on the behalf of those who feel DG was wronged. Until the chase started Stewart was mediocre at best and the previous two seasons was not a real threat to challenge for the cup. I think Stewart did the right thing in not losing focus amongst the celebration.

if carl had won one more race, he would have been the champion. if he had passed on more car during the chase he would have been champion. edwards CC has done an excellent job all season working with edwards, and rousch has a track record of keeping people around as long as they continue to work as a team.

edwards has really matured since last season, and his actions this season have proven that. perhaps kyle busch will do the same thing this off season. its too bad that junior johnson has retired, because he would have made kyle, and many other drivers, change their ways much like he did with DW.
I am just disappointed that Tony Stuart did not make an adjustment to his thinking about letting Grubb go. Without him Tony does not win the Championship. It was Tony who was crying "we don't deserve to be in the Chase" just before it started.
I can only imagine that the CC was the one who rallied the troops and got the job done. As good a driver as Tony is he does not win the championship on his driving abilities alone.
I am Carl fan and I really wished he could have won but Tony and his entire team including the crew chief out performed them the last 10 races and for that they deserve the trophy.
For Tony to let him go like he did just lacks a little class. The least he could have done if it was already a done deal was to wait until after the banquet to publicly fire Grubb.
He signed with JGR today. Next year we will look back at this being one of the smartest moves of the season.
Oh I agree with that, I'd rather work for Joe Gibbs than Tony Stuart any day.
It still was classless the way he was let go.
