Indy Car has a huge management problem. RB seems like a swell guy, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the new car is a mess, the engine situation is a mess, the schedule is down to 15 events, no-one goes to the races, the TV pact is a mess, the web site looks and operates like something from 1980, there are only a handful of sponsors, the current series sponsor (IZOD) is reportedly ready to bolt and the number of cars is down to the low 20's per event. You can't imagine a situation which is more dire for open wheel racing.

All it takes to turn it around is a serious management effort. The Hulman George family would get behind anyone who wants to rebuild the series, but it must be done professionally. You can't have a race cancelled at the last minute (which is poor enough) and then not have any options such that you are running around begging people to run an event so you can meet your minimum committments to your paltry sponsors. In the real world, businesses have things called backup plans.

Indy car generates about 20,000 fans per event. Why not run 30 or 40 events each year at venues that accomodate that sort of audience rather than put 20,000 people in the stands at Pocono (which will never accomodate them for a substitue event this year) and make it look like a farce?

Such an opportubnity wasted. It really was an awesome series in years gone bye.

As I sad in the F1, NASCAR, Indycar thread, I think the series is headed in the right direction. This is sort of a transition year with the new car, they have more cars at each race than they've had in a few years (outside Indy), and the races have been pretty good.

The new qualifying procedure (at Iowa) should generate some interest. They are working to re-establish/create a link with the top USAC open wheel division (Clauson). You can't fault them for not thinking outside the box.

It's going to take some time because it was in turmoil for so long.
