Yes.. and if she keeps driving so far off pace for a whole race average she might just win her second fuel mileage race in her 50,000 pro race starts...

Don't work quite like that unless all 8 are under one car.

CUP: Hamlin Out An Estimated Six Weeks

So long 2013.. start gettin prepped for the 2014 season Denny... too bad, once less good car/team/driver in the chase. Might help bring about a neat points shake up though I guess.

Not a Denny fan, but it's too bad this had to happen. The year isn't quite over, he could win a few races and still make the Chase, but of course that's a long shot.

Sometimes these types of injuries change a driver.

Yup. Just ask Pete Hamilton. Had the world in his hands but retired at the height of his career because of a nagging neck injury. Granted, we've come a LONG way since then but this injury shouldn't be taken lightly.

The issue with that though is, according to the interview they did with Denny, getting into the car to begin with. He said they would have to have a way to get him through the window and into a racing seat all the while keeping him completely straight. It's just not physically possible. Once they got him in there they could use a system of braces to keep pressure off the injury, but how to get him into the car and into a brace to begin with?

We have to remember, this is a sports injury, and sports injuries HAVE been known to keep athletes out for entire seasons (and worse), so there is no guarantee he will be in a car anytime soon.

You dont have to explain it to me.. thats why earlier I said itd be hard for him to get in and out of a EVEN a street car for awhile.. Ive had the same injury not long ago but from a motorcycle spill so I know a lil about how it feels. Its certainly something that has a rather linear progression. (The healing) After a few weeks he should be much better with getting in and out, but itll be slow moving AND the real danger is if he gets a good knock during those handful of laps if they wanted to go that route. .

Unless he does something extreme to worsen the injury he'll be back soon. Soon enough to save his season? Doubtful, even if not mathematically impossible. One thing though, this certainly is not a great time for Hamlin to have a throw away season. He really needs a good season at this point in his career he wants to keep his position in the NASCAR peeking order. Certainly in hindsight his career would be alot more secure right now if he would have had just a lil more patience that weekend in Bristol or if he didnt turn so hard to the left to try to wreck JL harder during the actual get together which is what brougt his car to the straight on angle that he hit at.

Ithink he had enough pressure with new driver doing well on the team and l always being #2 behind Rowdy and this certainly does help there.
