Can you buy a continuation Shelby 427 Cobra for $100,000, or less? Perhaps a slightly used one?
I'm referring to the ones being built at the Shelby facility in Las Vegas.
Certainly, from a styling standpoint, nothing close to a Lambo, but as to performance.......
Nice barn! For under $100,000...Go with a Shelby Cobra Replica. (Notice, I did not say KIT) SuperFormance (out of South Africa) builds the chassis and you can drop what ever engine your little heart desires into. We dropped a Rousch 427....fun, but beastly car to drive. Tell Lance and Debra at SF, We sent you!
Dude....I may not be of much help on advice, but I gotta admit my jaw dropped when I laid eyes on your Elise! I'm a Brit car guy myself.
I'll tell you what I'd like to have however....
Although it's not a production car, I'd love to toy around with really nicely built Caterham Super 7. Since you're a Lotus guy, you should appreciate where I'm coming from.
Thanks for the kind words everyone JRTurner, here's better resolution shot of the cars:
Lots of interesting choices here, and I'm really open to pretty much anything that drives on four wheels. Just feel like having some fun with this one
I'm definitely keeping the C5Z because it has been great has a daily driver which has never given me a problem in years and the fun-factor has never worn off. The Elise is just out-of-this-world on tight curvy road, also it's one of those cars that I'll just go down to the garage just to gaze at for awhile, so that is staying too. Even if the car has most of the qualities as the Lotus/Z, that's ok. I view cars more as art work than anything and just want something that is going to knock my eyes out every time I go down to the garage to look at it. Next one will just be an addition that I'll probably will mostly drive it on nice roads on sunny weekends.
Great ideas so far everyone An older Lamborghini Diablo and 03+ Viper seem to be pretty popular choices, but I'll also do some research into the Astons and Caterhams and add them to my list.
I like the new Lexus coming out in 2011 Lf-A Roadster, seen it watching the Pga at Pebble Beach on Tv yesterday.. Sweet looking car for a glorified Toyota.. Don't know the price tag on it though..
I've been looking into getting a new sports car for the summer. I enjoy this city-data and have met some very knowledgeable people on this forum, so I'd love to hear some advice.
I have a beater SUV to haul things, C5Z06 as a daily driver and Lotus Elise as a fun night/weekend car...
I really enjoy wild and unique styling on cars, so this is the most important factor for me. What is the most outrageously styled sports car under $100K?
The only other factors I'm looking for is that it has to be a production car, the model newer than 1990, and between $30-95K? Doesn't need to be a daily driver or anything very practical.
Lamborghini Diablo? Gen 3 Viper? Ferrari F355? Esprit?
You and I are on such a different financial scale, but I have always wanted one of these if I was in your shape....
I like ShelbyGirl's recommendation for the Cobra replica. The replica's are in many ways better than the originals and talk about unique and head turning. The look and the sound are just incredible and you can essentially build it to your specs.

LVD: That's a great choice! I've always loved the Esprits and they seem to be a great exotic for the money. I'm already starting to do research into the 30K belt-change cost (Looks to be about $4K), but even then still a bargain.
Mathguy: How have you been enjoying your car? Every now and then I debate whether I should I upgrade from my '03 to an '06. Would you say that it's worth the ~$15k (rough guess of Price of '06C5Z - Price of '03C5Z) to make the switch?

I'm sure that would be a sweet car, but I don't think I'll be getting one unless you want to give me a winning lottery ticket
