So, we wanted to trade in one of our current seadans; 2003 Toyota Camry XLE with mileage of 106K for a 2011 Subaru Outback with power sunroof, leather seats, heated front & passenger seats and rear camera for our growing family. We got the puddle lights and cargo nets thrown in flat rate too.
I knew the MSRP for the '11 Outback is around $31,510, but we saw one at the dealership with MSRP of $31,347 and used my husband's corporate discount of 1,722 bringing the MSRP down to $29,625.
We got 6k for the trade in value of the Toyota camry; blue book value listed it at 7k
Final price is 25,581 with interest rate of 2.9 for 72 months.....good deal?? should we try to get more value from 6k to 7k for the trade in or negotiate MSRP price down more??
Thoughts? fyi this is for NJ where we're located if that makes a difference.
If you are happy with the deal then its good. But why go 72 months. I would never go more than 60. If you are not happy then you may be able to get about 2k more if you sell the camry outright.
In order to give accurate information as to wheather this is a good deal or not,you need to be a little more specific as to which model Outback you are interested in. That said, I would think that you should be able to do a lot better on the price. I suggest spending $14 on a price report from the Consumer Reports website. You can plug in the exact model with the options you want and get a price to negotiate UP from. Never negotiate DOWN from the MSRP. As far as trade in is concerned, always negotiate that AFTER you reach a price on the car you are happy with. Remember, the dealer will always try to make as much as possible and has many tricks to help him. Most importantly, do not be afraid to walk away. Jersey has many dealers willing to sell you a car. Good luck.
Opps! Typo error....it's for 60 months, as a general rule we never like to go longer than 60 months. That's why I'm asking as I felt we can squueze out more from the dealership.
I've priced the exact 2011 Outback 2.5i Limited from plugging in the numbers at consumers and got $28,488....but we're getting it for less at 25,500 something. Basically, we've gotten $2,150 off before the trade in value. Gonna look more into it, so keep coming with the feedback.
I've researched Edmunds website A LOT prior while narrowing down my choices, and it seems to be people were paying on average for the '11 Outback 2.5i Limited with powered sunroof for $27-29k range. Made me think/wonder whether it's a regional thing??
I think its too much money if it will get worse gas mileage than the toyota. As for me since the toyota should have years of good service left in it I would drive the wheels off and then see what the car market has to offer..I know the Subaru cant get great gas millage.I bet it doesnt even get 20 around town
