My brother had to cancel his 2000 mile round trip drive to reunion in Nebraska from Michigan today.
When he was going thru Chicago, about 70mph, he hit a pot hole and his left rear shock and linkage broke. He said truck vibrated real bad and rear tire was bouncing like a basketball.
Thank God he got pulled to shoulder and limped in to next exit. He spent all morning looking for someone to look at it and found a garage that would. They had to look all over town to get shocks that fit and cost him 300.00 for Monroe gas-matic, set of two.
He has a 2005 Dodge 2500 Laramie 4door Diesel 4x4 with 75,000 miles. He will be replacing front shocks now also. Next trip to Nebraska will be 4th of July. Hope for better luck.
Chi-town is famous for epic potholes. Interesting that this is true, since they seem to be working road repair all the time except in the middle of winter.
And toll booths. Do they still have that damn toll booth that hits you up for a dime?! I mean you burn more than 10 cents worth of gas just getting back up to speed after tossing the dime in the basket...
Upper midwest is not a good place to be for a car/truck.
I bet it happened on 80/94 near the IN/IL line. Those potholes caused dozens of flats, and last I heard when I listened to a traffic report a few hours ago, traffic on that section of tollway was still snarled by a combination of cars on the side of the road changing tires and repair crews eating up lane capacity to patch the holes.
When Chicago was a healthy industrial town there was plenty of tax money available to fix things. Now the industry is gone and it hasn't sunk in yet to folks that part of the price of cheap Asian made goods has to be higher taxes so the city has the money to fix potholes.
Weird. I thought Pennsylvania was the only place that had potholes. Or do the people I keep hearing from just not know what the **** they're talking about? (Wouldn't be the first time.)

Well, lets see, my brother lives in Niles, MI and was headed west to Nebraska. Had to go thru Chicago not Pennsylvania. So yeah, potholes do exist in other states. lol It happened on 80/94 west.
