Hi there. I did a search on the forum and did not see anything on bubbles in window tint. I've been doing research on how long bubbles in car tint will go away, but I would like to hear from fellow Valley residents.
I had my new car tinted nearly three weeks ago. There are some bubbles on my windows. Given our weather, I feel like I have given sufficient time for the water bubbles to settle. My service advisor said that maybe it wasn't enough time -- does that seem odd? -- but said I could bring the car in.
I hate feeling like I'm getting told something is normal when it's not, so I appreciate any responses.
I attached two pictures. I know they're not great, but I hope they help. The one in the corner (photo 1) looks like a water bubble to me, but the other bubbles (photo 2) look different.

It depends on the thickness of the film. The time for bubbles to dissipate goes up exponentially as the thickness increases. I put on hurricane film (8 mils thickness) and I was told it took 6 months for the soap bubbles to go away. After a year, it still was there (albeit a lot less). I talked with all kinds of experts that told me this was typical and it would dissolve. Most did but some didn't. Saying that, make sure you get things in writing in case it doesn't. Visa for charge back reasons has it's limitiations so it must be in writing.
I would wait another month and see if you have any progress. Good luck.
Not that it will help you now, but a professional tint job should not have any bubbles in it.
Obviously the person who did the job was not the best to do the job.
I have had two vehicles with window tint installed (one I did myself), and in all the years I had them, there was never a bubble.
Obviously they didn't get all the air out when they installed it.
The secret is keeping the film wet while smoothing it out.
Trust me, the bubbles will never disappear.
You need a new tinting job by someone who knows what they are doing.
Bob.
Take it back and tell em to scrape it off and do it right. I've installed thousands of sq. feet of 4 and 8 mil safety and security film on homes and the general rule of thumb is any bubble the size of a dime or less will go away on it's own provided it's a water bubble. If it's an air bubble (usually because the installer didn't get the film wet enough) just like calguy said, it will never go away.
That's a crappy job, plain and simple. I used to install tint, shouldn't have ANY air bubbles and IF you do have a tiny water bubble it would have been gone within a week.

Bingo! Some rookie did that job. I've had windows tinted 20 that didn't have any soap bubbles, air bubbles or any other kind of bubble on them, the day I had it done and now it's 20 years later and they're still exactly the same as the day it was done.

what these guys said. i have a friend that has been doing tint for more than 20 years, and the reality is that the water bubbles go away within a week. you an try to use a squeege to push the bubbles down, but likely if it is an air bubble, then the only way to truly fix the problem is to replace the tint.
Thank you for the responses. Very disappointing results considering this was done at a dealership. (But then again, I've heard a few negative things about dealerships, too, so ...) I took the car back in. We'll see how it turns out.
