Somone once told me that every man should own a pick up at some point in their lives. They also said that once a guy owns a pick up, he will always wish for one. I thought that is stupid. Why woudl I ever want a pick up. They are not performance vehicles. Then one day I bought one becuase it was cheap and I thought it would be useful for our house restoration project.

My friend was right. People who disagree either have never owned a pick up, or they just are not men.

I am not a truck guy. But I know lots of people that have them. I understand why people like them. They are taller, rugged, you can "throw stuff in the back," you can go over a curb if you have to without fuss. A fair number of women in Texas drive them too - they like the height and view over the road. It isn't a standard soccer mom vehicle. And it isn't fussy.

The dually diesel three quarter ton is too much for me. But a F150 Supercrew King Ranch is a very nice vehicle.

Out here where I live I don't know a neighbor who has a car. I had a Honda Accord when I moved out here but a full-sized Dodge Ram truck pulling a loaded cattle trailer ate it, and almost me with it, in an intersection. I now have an F150 4x4.

I've owned pickups, even 4x4 ones, while living and working in a large city but I would have preferred to have a smaller and more maneuverable car. Out here even a standard pickup is not enough. One needs a 4x4 just to get in and out at times. If it can't make it, I have tractors.

Ford used to produce the Lightning and it had a little performance built into it. LOL

Many of us have built them to go fast and perform.

Pickup truck? Are you kidding? You're not a real man unless you've owned a bulldozer at some point in your life.

Do you think trucks are really more common in the country or not?
I'd say so. I don't think I have a neighbor who doesn't own some sort of pickup. SUV's are not as common. I have both but I still refuse to wear flannel.
