1997 Blazer 6 cy with 177something thousand miles. I've pretty well kept things fixed as they have come up. Regular oil changes at Valvoline etc.
I've noticed for a long time that the oil pressure gage always read on the plus side of the middle.
This weekend on a long holiday drive I noticed it seemed to surge up, then back a little and today it seemed higher than its usual a little on the plus side.
Is this an indication that the oil pump is going? Or?
Also lately I've noticed when I turn the car off their is a distinct hissing sound coming from the dash. Have no idea about that.
The oil gauge could be normal, usually you will see oil pressure higher when the oil is cold, and it may vary with engine RPM to some extent.
The hissing from the dash may be a vacuum motor with a leak, or a vacuum line with a leak, most of the dampers that regulate air flow through heater and ventilation are run by engine vacuum.
You may want to try to track down the hiss, it could be as simple as a hose that has pulled loose. I wouldn't take it to a shop unless you have a very good independent mechanic - most chain shops have no business messing with anything in the dash (and very little business anywhere else on the car IMHO).
Neither one of these sounds like a serious or expensive problem, and, depending, you may not have any real problem here at all.
