when i got my new Yaris it took the dealer 2 weeks to refund my $500 deposit overpayment that i put in the bank check I gave them. They hedged several times. I actually reported it to Toyota and got a case # but the next day i got a call from the salesman that the $$ is being refunded to my bank card. Not sure if Toyota notified them or not but i did get the $ back
Curious tho, when i was picking up the car the sales guy said something about the dealer having some kind of power of attorney during a certain period.
Just before the $$ was refunded, i received the official registration certificate in the mail not from the DMV but from the dealer
Is it possible that up until the time i received the registration in the mail the dealer had power of attorney over the car and therefore didn't have to refund my deposit?
With out knowing all the details one of two things happened.
1. If you traded in a car you gave the dealer a POA for the title transfer and you gave them a POA to register and or title your new car for you. When they come from the factory they only have a cert. of origin.
2 You didn't trade in a vehicle but the later of the first applies.
The reason that it took so long to get you money back was by law they have to keep your file open until everything is 100% complete. That is why you got your money shortly after you got your registration. They could not close your file, calculate overages and issue you a refund while you still had temp tags.
