I have always like the thought of taking one vehicles drivetrain and suspension and stuffing it into something unexpected.
My current idea is a Nissan GT-R drivetrain and suspension in a Nissan Maxima. I like this idea for a few reasons:
1) I like sleepers - there is something awesome when your car can do things no one would expect.
2) I like to keep it in the family - nothing erks me more than when I see engines from one manufacturer in an other manufacturer's car.
3) I like a car that I can use everyday - pick up the kids (that I don't have yet) from school, carry luggage, etc.
I know that accquiring all of the components would costs a hefty sum, and the fabrication required would be extremely complex, but it would be awesome to blow to doors off of most cars in a family sedan that no one would suspect. Yeah an M or AMG sedan could compete but that's ecpected, a Maxima? Really?
I had considered a Ford 5.0 in a 4th gen camaro. Small blocks are hard to so in 4th gen F-bodies, since hald of the engine is under the engine cowl. Chevy small blocks have distributors on the back, and the Fords had them on the front. Would have been interesting.
I like the idea of putting a 2.0 Ecotec turbo in the back of an '88 Fiero GT. I suppose it's not really a "sleeper" because it looks the part. But dynamically I think that would be a great package and it would throw off anyone who thinks it's a "normal" Fiero. I know people have stuffed anything from the 3.8 V6 to an LSx V8 back there, but I would think you'd lose some of its nimbleness and balance hualing around that much more weight. The Ecoboost would be a nice light package -- probably weighs quite a bit less than the stock 2.8 V6 it came with -- and 260HP is plenty of oomph for that car.
Some dudes in my hometown in Norway got a lot of international press when they put a BMW 5.6L V12 engine in a BMW 316i Compact... No idea how they shoehorned it in there though.

I think it could still qualify as a sleeper if you keep the outside stock. And with that ecotec running 20 pounds of boost is bound to be a blast in a car so light... plus I love that it would keep the same family

What's even more amazing is that's it's all legal, which, if you knew anything about modifying cars in Norway, is pretty much an impossible feat.
That looks awesome!
