I haven't heard anything on the warranty. The only thing I can tell you is that if it is sold in a CARB compliant state it has to carry a 10 year and 150k mile warranty on the electric powertrain and the batteries. Anything else is going to be at the discretion of smart.

Whoops, I'd totally brainfarted on the CARB states.
If you really think you want one, I'd kinda be in a hurry. Penske dropped the Smartcar as it was costing him money due to poor sales figures. Daimler picked it up but sales figures are dropping like a rock....kinda like their reliability. Last month sales were less than 1000 units and falling. It's likely Daimler will drop the car as well. The Smartcar has been plagued with transmission issues, A/C issues, and it's a death trap at 40 mph. Fuel mileage for such a small platform sucks as well considering a Focus will get about 10 more MPGs hiway. If you are interested solely in an electric, the Smartcar does fairly well at 60 miles per charge but some of the new entrys into the market come 2013 will beat it by a lot and use less juice at the plug. But frankly, I wouldn't be concerned about the warranty since the company probably won't last as long as the warranty- best of luck.
Wow smartcars only have a 2yr/24K mile warranty on them??
They did. Now it's 4/48 with the 2012 models.
