I'm thinking about buying a new car. What do you think about the Chevy Cruise or the Ford Focus?

My wife has a Ford Focus and it has been very reliable.

They're both rated at about the same MPG. Focus gives you the option of the utility of a hatch back. Cruze is sedan only. Research both cars, test drive both, and decide which you like best.

If I had to choose one or the other I would choose a Mazda 3.

The Ford Focus looks a bit like something meant for a younger person, bordering on boy-racer.
The last Ford Focus that I owned literally blew up on the freeway at 70k miles. I will never own a Ford product again. Pieces of junk. Maybe the new ones are better though.

The Chevy Cruze looks to me to be the more mature car. All the chevy's in my family have lasted well over 100k miles. I'd have to say the Chevy.

Both have just avg reliability but I like the interior of the Cruze better. The Focus seems cheaper (well at least the trim line I rented at the airport Alamo). Also take a look at the Mazda 3 with SkyActiv if gas consumption is important or the Elantra which has an interior better than a more expensive Accord or Camry.

Something about the Cruze already looks dated to me. It reminds me of the previous generation Sonata.

If I were in the market for a new small car, the Mazda 3 would be at the top of my list.

The ex-wife had a 2000 Ford Focus that had close to 200,000 with no major problem plus it was fun to drive in the twisties I'm guessing it's because of it's German hertiage. I don't think the Chevy would be as much fun to drive, but if you like boring cars then I guess the Chevy would be your best bet.
