Hers is a special case, as she points out here:
Quote:
After having driven a few times in Seattle, driving seems not only more expensive, but also more stressful, and, in the city, rarely faster. And in an attempt to achieve entirely free transportation, riding my bike has become a means to an end rather than simple recreation. As a result, these days I get a lot more incidental exercise (and a lot fewer drive-through burgers).

But this is only possible because the infrastructure exists here: bike paths, frequent buses, and the first line in what promises to soon become a train system.
I'd like to see her do this in Kentucky.

Here's a brand new invention for you to acheive this without owning a car: Car rental - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sorry, you come in here and insult people who like cars, and you want to be taken seriously? Get the hell out. NOW. There's a section for bicyclists. Use it.

I was thinking about getting a cart to pull behind my bicycle so I can use it for running errands so I don't have to use my car so much.

But after reading this I think I'll buy another car. I'm leaning toward a 1976 Cadillac with the 500 CI engine and all the emission control devices removed. I don't plan to drive it, just start it up and let it run all day long spewing those sweet carbon monoxide emissions into the otherwise pristine air of rural Iowa.

Everyone here should visit the Cycling section of the Hobby forum and fill it with threads about their favorite Car or truck and how driving is much better than riding a bicycle.

There is plenty of that already.

Why is everyone so defensive? Did I miss something?

While the article isn't great, its topic is relevant to an automotive forum.
