The M3 has never been AWD and the first M3's came with an I6, why is this an issue?

Yeah, it's sad really. BMW is watering down the brand and destroying the things that made M vehicles special. No more M specific powertrains as all they're doing for M versions today is upping boost to existing boosted engines and slapping on M decals. The E9x M3 and E60 M5 with its naturally aspirated V10 are the last real M cars.

No doubt with the BMW patented Novocaine-assist variable steering.

actually the first M3's were 2.3 4 cylinders (87-91 w/boxed fenders). The 1995 models started with 3.0 inline 6, later it became a 3.2 I6.

I liked it quite a bit. It was a great performer with a screamer of an engine.

There was a guy recently who paid a good bit of money for a first gen M3 powered (4 banger) BMW 2002. It was a great looking build but very costly.

It seems that V-10s just don't have a great sound to them. The Dodge Viper comes to mind. It really is an awful sounding car despite it's looks and performance.
