I'm sure it's been mentioned by now but the 55mph speed limits were imposed in the 70s because of the fuel crisis. It is annoying too slow if you want to get anywhere in decent time. I would say 65 is perfect, but not everyone can handle that (some even fear highways altogether). Do I still speed? I go with the flow of traffic, which is usually above 60.
My last ticket I got was 75 in a 50mph (city zone) on the Clearview Expressway in Queens which is essentially a drag strip with zero traffic (fitting name). I wasnt' watching my speed and it was my fault for being that much over. But it felt perfectly safe doing it even with 2 year olds in the back seats. I bet they make a pretty penny on that road every single day. Again, speed limits, especially on highways, are not primarily for safety. School zones, definitely.
Got a ticket on Friday for going 106 on a 55. Its my first ticket, and I'm definitely pleading not guilty, even though I was. Also got caught for tinted windows. That's a different story though.
Anyway, after that ticket, I just don't see the point in driving fast anymore. Yea, the thrill is cool or whatever, but I could've killed someone.
So do you guys still speed? If you do, why? If not, what made you stop.
If the cop doesn't show up to the hearing, you win. If you see him in the courtroom, change your plea and beg for traffic school. But slow the f' down!
When I was younger I had a bit of a lead foot. After getting several tickets right in a row on my 98' Honda CBR900RR when I was in my mid 20's I decided it just wasn't worth it. Shortly after that I bought a set of leathers and started doing trackdays on my bike. Haven't had a ticket since and that was 10 years ago.
Yup, still do. Out here, most of us do. Since speeding doesnt hit our driving record until we hit 15mph over, cops tend to say off you until you hit that mark.
In Washington, I was good for about a ticket a year. They would nail you at 3 over in many areas, often hiding at the bottom of hills. Hated that state for the traffic cops.

That's only true if you actually subpoena him to appear. Otherwise what the officer wrote on the ticket is considered his testimony and he doesn't have to show up.
I always try to stay at speed limit. The liability for speeding and getting in a wreck which kills someone to too great plus the danger that anther will get road rage. At least here police are subpoena to al case involving tickets they wrote by the prosecution .Once it gets to court defense driving is out ;just guilty; no contest( guilty under law) or innocent is allowed as a plea.
