Family member wants to buy a 2013 MINI Clubman. The model hasn't really changed much since 2007, but the kinks have pretty much been worked out by now. Now I read that they are significantly changing the model with the 2014 edition (won't come out until Spring 2014).

Is it better to wait for 2014 and risk new kinks? Go with the current model and feel outdated next year?

wait two years, get the new model with the kinks all ready worked out, or wait till the new model comes out, but the old on at a huge discount and just live with an "outdated" car

Great example would be a 2013 Impala vs a 2014 Impala. One is much cheaper, but the newr one is way better than the old one.

I would buy it as soon as the new one comes out as long as you don't mind taking it in for recalls. It's under warranty so all the kinks will be taken care of.

I would rather not buy a car in it's last cosmetic year.

Once the new model comes out yours is really old now.

Read up on the newer model. Do you like the new design? Do you like the new gadgets?

As for the 1st model-year kinks, since it'll be under warranty for a while, no real reason to worry. You'll just have to make a few trips.

I'm in the process of purchasing an final model-year (2014). My reasoning: most if not all the kinks for the current model should have been worked out; a few options are thrown in for free; the price is equivalent to a 2013 model; and I don't like the new model (2015/16) design.

That could be a lot of trips to the dealer based on Mini's history.

I hope the dealer is on the way to work.

If they moved the speedometer to the proper place, that is something I would wait for. Otherwise I'd buy a discounted brand new 2013.

From the sneak preview pics, it looks like they DO plan to move it to over the steering wheel, and the big dial in the middle will now become the radio/music system
