After I detailed it. Stayed like this all the time with two engine details a year. I sold it at 136,000 miles and the mechanic who looked it over for the buyer had never seen one kept so well.
The Saturn was also kept mint.
The GLI is easy to maintain since it has the engine cover. But I still wipe it down, degrease, and clean all the hoses and tanks.
So.....did the Daytona and the Cherokee just come out of a box or something?
Wow.
LOL, the Daytona, kinda. Bought it new and it currently has less than 8000 original miles. It has spent it's entire life garaged and used for shows and nice day cruising. I also bought the Cherokee new but it is currently my daily driver and is 600 miles short of 100,000. Unlike the Daytona it has never spent a single night garaged and has been to four Camp Jeep events and two Jeep Jamborees. Now a days I take it to more shows than off road events so keeping it clean is not that hard. I have only had the Crossfire about a year and the previous owner kept it pretty clean so it was not to hard to make it shine.
This time of year, not so clean. I'd go broke washing it often enough to keep the winter road grime from accumulating under there, plus this time of year there are few days that I have the time to clean it when it's warm enough.
Starting about May 1, though, it will be as clean as can reasonably be expected given that the guy who owned it the first 24 years of it's life never cleaned the engine compartment and it sat in a shed accumulating rat's nests under the hood for three years before I got it.
I just keep my engine bay clean enough so I can see any leaks. LA's Totally Awesome from Dollar Tree is truly an awesome degreaser. I use a car wash so the chemicals stay out of the environment. Pull in, spray degreaser and let it sit for a minute, then one minute of washing (at a distance) with the high pressure hose. It only costs a dollar.
