lack of appropriate "attire" (ie hubcaps, side trim etc) can mean the difference between a hideously ugly scrap of metal and a beautiful car

Same car to me. Some chintzy trim pieces don't make much difference. Basically, less important than paint color. You can always add the trim with minimal effort.

Yeah, the lack of the full wheel covers, trim, vinyl top really hurt a car like this. It appears someone has changed the car. I don't think it came that way from the factory. I see a lot of those hubcaps put on a lot of larger luxury cars, not sure why, I think they look terrible myself. lol.

Here is a 2dr the same way... what is worse, it has been lowered!

Also those other New Yorkers are the 4dr hardtop models and the other is a 4dr sedan with the b-pillar post... I think I like the hardtop models better.

Here is a '72 sedan with all of the original items... it looks fine too though.

On cars that came factory equipped with hub caps instead of full wheel covers, the wheels were usually painted body color. The cars that came from the factory with full wheel covers, be they standard equipment or an optional upgrade, usually had black painted wheels, regardless of the body color.

The wheels on that Chrysler look like they are black, therefore I don't think the hub caps are original to that car.

My 1960 T-Bird driver had '70s Ford station wagon wheels (15"), body color, and Ford small hub caps. It looked great.

You do realize that full hubcaps were an option.
