Lately I have noticed as I ride my bike that a car unexpectedly turns into my path and I am irritated by it but when I see the tail end, there are blinkers going. However, the front does not show anything. I have seen front turn signals before and it looks like all cars have them but many times they don't light up.

Please no snark if this is considered a "stupid" question. I don't drive! Are there separate turn signals for the front that many people don't bother to use? Because having them light up in the back is not enough. 50% of all pedestrians and other travellers need to see them from the front!

All front turn signals work with the rear ones unless a bulb is burned out. there are no separate front turn signals. On any car. If they were going on the rear, then they were going on the front, and you may just not have seen them.

Wow, that is strange. I wonder if they are just too small or whatever. I will regularly back ones and not front ones.

Most of them now wrap around the front corner of the vehicle, so it can be seen from the side as well as the front.

Federal law mandates even the size of such lights.

Therefore, they are either burned-out or you just aren't seeing them.

On a motorcycle however, never assume someone will actually use them and just assume that every car or truck is going to pull out or turn in front of you.

Maybe you are riding your bike when the sun is hitting the front of the cars just right so the front lights can't easily be seen if blinking?

(Sometimes the sunlight will hit the blinker light lenses on my car just right and it looks like the light is on.)

They must be burned out much of the time. It's pretty weird. It happens to me all the time.

It is likely when they nearly run you down, they are reminded to activate the turn indicators. You did not see them in the front becasue they were not on. By the time they get past you, they have activated the indicator. Often we see examples of people activating their indicators after or while making a turn.

Billy, you may have hit on something. I was wondering if they were reflectors and not even lights.
