Used to be a Goodyear plant in Union City Tennessee but it was shut down recently. I'm glad they are building this plant in Clarksville, it will be good for the economy.

I think Hankook was aiming to get close to Hyundai/Kia plants in Alabama and Georgia. Hankook/Kuhmo/Nexen is the primary OE supplier for Hyundai/Kia.

Hankook tires are made in Korea and China.

I switched to Hankook from Nitto terra grapplers. The hankooks are wearing better, they will probably last 50,000 miles as opposed to the Nitto's which were gone at 35k.

However, at 80 psi (load range E) they feel 'wobbly'. They feel okay at 55psi, but I tow so need the tires at 80.

Few unions in Tennessee; Korean workers have some very militant unions. Foreign companies consider the southern United States a source of cheap and docile labor. You know, the way American companies look at Mexico and China.

I will continue to buy Goodyear tires with 8 plants in the US, and 2 in Canada (ehh), and keep my money with a corporation based here where the profits stay here, and executive bonus money. I will not support a foreign invasion to bilk money from Americans.

Let me rephrase my previous post.

Hankook is opening the plant to be closer to their buyer(Hyundai/Kia). It has nothing to do with labor force.

I think cheap, docile labor has a great deal to do with it; it's why Hankook's main customer is there in the first place.

According to Websters:

Docile = easily taught, led, or controlled

What do you folks in the South think about this?
