Anyone have any experience with this brand tire. Specifically Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum.

Kumho's are decent tires, I've had a few sets over the years. Haven't had the Platinum, last set I had were Ecsta Supras. Decent handling, good treadwear, but they were very noisy. Biggest complaint I've seen most regarding Kumho is the noise once they have a few thousand miles on them.

Yep. Excessive tire noise was a problem with my set of Ecsta's, even worse with the Nexen's that are on my current car. I've crossed the Hankook company(Hankook/Kuhmo/Nexen) off my shopping list.

I have heard that they are not a bad tire for the money but they don't stack up to the upper level brands.

Have them on my Camry and Tucson, haven't had any issues. Tucson is the one with more miles on it at about 11k miles. Tires have worn well, low road noise and have handled well though I do live in an area that doesn't see much rain and almost no snow.

I've had two sets of Ecsta SPTs on my NSX. I think they were fine tires overall, especially for the money.

But with the exception of Michelin, I am am reluctant to make broad statements about an entire brand. Goodyear for example makes some fine tires, but they also make some crappy ones.

These are all bottom-of-the barrel (sub)brands. Got what you paid for!

This rule doesn't necessarily apply when it comes to tires. I've had $80 kumho tires that outlasted and out performed $170 continental tires that were both installed on the same vehicle. Just browse the reviews on tirerack and look at how many people have complaints about certain expensive reputable tire brands.

The tires are for my sister in laws car and her funds are limited. The O.E. tires are that are on the car are Michelin Pilot MX MXM4. They go for about $740.00 for 4 from tire rack with shipping. I told her to look at other options that were closer to her budget. She found the Kumho Ecsta's on tire rack for about $450.00 for 4 with shipping. I have had zero experience with the brand so that's why I ask. I don't think she would really notice a noise difference between the two. The Kumho's do have a better (tire rack) consumer rating than the Michelin's and the thread wear spec is twice the Michelin's.
