Usually 5 over, but 10 if the there is a good flow of speedy cars. Drove from nyc to michigan this weekend, and did 10 over on PA, 5 over NJ, OH. Split the difference in MI.

It helps to drive a discrete distance behind a "jackrabbit" who's going fast. It's likely that if there's enforcement around, he'll be the one to get the ticket. That's worked for me sometimes.
I got a ticket last spring for going 79 mph in a 55 mph zone. The trooper was a pretty chill guy (he cut my speed down to 65 mph on the ticket) and when he handed me the ticket, he told me that nobody would bother me as long as I didn't go over 70 mph in the 55 mph zone. I guess every state has a different tolerance. But at 5-10 mph over the limit, I don't think you were in much danger of getting nailed.
That's an opinion, to which you're entitled. Not a fact.
Actually, no, it's a fact. Spee variance results in more motor vehicle collisions than all automobiles maintaining a constant velocity. It's not an opinion in the least.

Made that drive countless times while my wife was in grad school at U-M. Always drove as fast as I could on the PA Tpk then slowed down considerably in Ohio. Then back up to 85 once we crossed the line into MI.

And the person directly responsible for "speed variance" is the person who is exceeding the speed limit, NOT the person driving AT the speed limit. No matter how much one thrashes and plays this game,

Yes, the self righteous, self appointed speed vigilante is right, not the 95% of the people who aren't going the speed limit or the police who don't enforce the exact speed limit.
In many instances it's possible to speed safely. In some instances it's actually more prudent to do so than drive the posted speed limit. There are virtually no instances where it is safe to disrupt the predictable and orderly flow of traffic. Something for the self-righteous left-lane hogs to think about.
