City or Highway? are you towing a travel trailer with 7-passengers and their camping and fishing Gear or is it unloaded and just being used as your daily driver to work and back by your self?

Fuel economy is anywhere from 4-6MPG towing/hauling or 4x4ing with it to 10-14MPG depending on the type of stop and go City or mostly hwy type of driving you do the most.

I mean in my F250 gas mileage is down my list of what I want and need in a vehicle and just have to pay the price to have it and it is not a surprise that 10-11MPG are average.

Excursion IMO is more heavy duty than the suburban. Most suburbans are built on a 1/2 ton chassis Excursion is built on a 3/4 ton chassis.
The Excursion uses a Twin traction beam (TTB) Dana 60 not a solid front axle only the F350 came with as solid front axle from the factory..

If the Excursion is a 4x4 it has a solid axle.

If the OP is looking for a land yacht on a budget the Excursion is the way to go. There are many out there that are a good value. I'm not a Ford person but I ended up with an Excursion because an equal Suburban, K2500 with a 496 is very hard to find and cost quite a bit more.

Up until 96 or so. When the '99 Super Duty came out, the F250 4x4 had solid front axle and leaf springs just like the F350.

In SRW form, they are pretty much the same truck. Only real difference is the F350s had a lift block in the back and slightly higher spring rates. At least for 99-03.

On a 4x4 it's a solid front axle early models had Dana 50 later models had Dana 60. No 4x4 excursion came with TTB 4x4 unless someone made a custom suspension for prerunning desert race

There was no excursion before 99. It's built on a superduty chassi which didn't come out until 98 as a 99 model.

+1

F250 4X4 uses the same Twin axle.
The F350 uses a solid axle and is why the preferred Ford used for Snow plowing are F350's

What years are we talking about? The F250 does use TTB setup until 95/96. Then a "HD" F150 took it's place. For 99, it's a solid axle in the front.

Don't worry PDD my 91 F250 and the 1980-1996 F-series are what I know best and well I know that in my truck it has the TTB Dana 50 and the F-350 has/had the solid front and thought Ford kept the same set up in the early 99-04 Superduty line up.

But one thing if I had an Excursion would be looking for a wrecked F450 Dana 80 Rear axle with a aftermarket SRW conversion kit and use it in place of the Sterling 10.5" since that would be worth it for the 15.35 inch rear brakes and a replace the factory Dana 50 for Dana Super 60 for the 14.53 inch front brakes would really give the Excursion better tow/haul braking capability on long steep grades.

With compression braking and not have to worry as much about losing the breaks to severe fade and burn them up and have a run away is worth it to do the swap IMO depending on the places you tow through then again the cascades and Canadian Rocky Mountain range is where I do most of my towing and never can have to much brakes and added safety and control.

Now if the OP is daily driving and very little towing or not towing a massive travel trailer with a some many or large power slide outs then forget the last part about swapping out the front and rear axles since it is fine unless you have serious tow/hauling needs and use it to near the limits of the max GAWR, GTWR and GVW ratings then it would be a good investment.

Be mostly city driving but we have a bypass I can use to go around the city...just regular every day driving, grocery shopping,it will be used for trips soon 600-800 mile trip...I am used to 100$ to fill up my expedition but its a piece of junk and I am getting rid of it ASAP.
