I know this is a small detail, but which so you prefer the red or white door light? Personally I think red is better as it's always brighter than the usual whitish/yellowish one.
Also why don't most cars have door lights? It's a little feature but incredibly useful at night when it's dark.
Well, for entering a vehicle I'd rather have white. But for map lights and whatnot, I'd like the choice between red and white, since I wouldn't loose my "night vision" using red.

Is your red light loose? Is it need to be fastened or tightened?
If the door light could be seen from behind the vehicle (pointing back) by other traffic, I'll bet they have to make it red just like tail lights need to be red. Maybe due to a law or maybe safety?
I have a car where the light is on the bottom of the door (pointing down) and it is white.

This basically. I am not sure if it is absolute law or not, but lights in a door panel that are visible from behind the car when the door is open are red, for the sake of approaching traffic.
Puddle lights in the bottom of the door (or side mirror) are white.
On a side note, I am not sure a red map light would be all that useful for reading a multi-color road map as it would make it more challenging to discern the roads, based on their color on the map.

I know what you mean, but most cars these days have white door lights that are pointed towards the back

So then most manufactures are breaking the law..
