You do realize that just because the car is small and a hatchback doesn't mean it's a slow piece of junk. They have many more turbo charged diesel cars that can easily blow our cars/trucks away in speed and corners. They also can get well well over the mpg our vehicles get. I doubt there cars are more unreliable than American cars. They get Honda's, Toyota's, Ford's as well. Just cooler models. Why? Well, look at the comments in this thread. Americans aren't interested in fast, nice looking little cars, that get great gas mileage. They'd rather drive a boring looking F-350 or Camry or Buick.
The premise of the original post is just wrong. Sure there are interesting cars in Europe. There are many more as a percentage that are tiny 3 or 4 cylinder hatchbacks. No - these are not "hot hatches." A Ford Ka is not very sexy or interesting. Or a huge number of Vauxhall or Skoda cars.
We don't have as many small cars. And we have more big cars. But we have no shortage of high performance and interesting cars.
They don't have many Tesla in Europe. And of course Tesla is made here. Almost no Fiat cars, in Europe or US, are truly interesting.
They don't have V8 Mustangs in Europe. Nothing that sounds like that without spending $100K or more.
I don't think Europe currently has any Mustang, at least the UK does not. They're bringing it back with the next model. It will have better suspension and only be offered with the higher two engine options, leaving the base engine for America only. Thing is, the base engine is actually very good now. Mostly what it's missing is the sound. Similar in performance to what the V8 offered just ten years ago.
Well the 6 and 7 are two different models, but that 7 looks good! Love the rims! Somewhat recently on Top Gear, Jeremy drove a Mustang gt500 from London to maybe Italy in a race against a train.
Wow there are a lot of European car "experts" on this thread who have never lived in Europe.
Or visited. The "average" car over there is smaller and more fuel efficient than we have here. That isn't a European thing, go visit Japan, Hong Kong, India, or Brazil to name a few, and you'll see that most cars the world over are smaller, fuel efficient vehicles. But in Europe, they have access to all those cars AND the cool cars that we will never get here.
Things are improving a bit over here, we are finally getting the Mercedes B class for example, and Audi is considering bringing over the A1.
Too bad we can't get Alfas, or the Peugeot RCZ. That thing would sell like hotcakes over here.
First, North America has the least amount of population per square mile of any continent with the exception of Australia. Our fuel costs are some of, if not the lowest in the world. The reason you see different cars is the standards are different. OBD requirements in the US are different than the Europe. Therefore, when a car is built it is specific to the US market whether built here, or overseas. Since the gas crisis of 1973 cars have gotten way smaller. Today's fullsize is similar to a 70's midsize or smaller. This doesn't make the US better, or worse, but just different.
Europe is constantly emulating America with second rate vehicles twice as expensive, and half as fast. Our F350 will keep up with the turbocharged econobox with 4 times the weight, and god forbid will build anything to compete, because they'll lose.
its interesting....the big truck enthusiast who love to ride the tail of my WRX wagon on a busy four lane because going 5 over in the right lane is too slow. Then low and behold they are on their way to the same curvy mountain road as me. Funny to see them fade extremely fast in my rearview the first corner we take because their truck pisses itself when it sees something that isnt straight. Grow up in the south with rednecks and their trucks, and you'll learn to hate them too, at least those types of people.
