I am a little bit in predicament here. Have my sights on 1988 Merkur XR4-Ti, but can not find any "official" value to bounce off for it. KBB does not go that far back and there are like none for sale.
I know. That's why I have my sights on one. I am eccentric. Now no one remebers that those had fast turboed engines. I'll shave it, remove all badging, fix, and have some fun. Plus the guy got a custom motor and Mustang manual tranny in it. Upgraded turbo. Should be fun.
I remember the XR4Ti. I traded a '72 Cutlass convertible for one in early '92.
It was fun to drive, with the 2.3 turbo and the bi-plane spoiler on the rear window. But reliability was iffy, and parts were pricey, even in the early 90's.
It's a unique car, that's for sure. Just don't pay too much for it!
There used to be one parked in a hotel in Kansas City. I used to park there when leaving for trips with the airlines and saw that Merkur sitting there regularly. I always thought it was a cool looking car, and while people may not recognize it...you can tell it has "go fast" aggressive styling...
I love the Euro Fords. I'd say try to look at completed eBay listings, but they may be few and far between. I'd say that in a non-spectacular condition it should be worth a couple of grand, based on experience.
