I would like to know from your experiences how long did it take you to go through Drivers ED and get a drivers license? I am starting drivers ed in a bit and will get my drivers permit and I would like to know what are some tips or tricks that you have learned?

I think it was like 2 months? Twice a week after school for 2 hours a time. DE included all the driving time that the state required to get a permit.

Mine was back in 1975. It was a half semester class for written. 2 weeks in the car.
Just got my motorcycle qualification. One 6 hour class in classroom, two 5 hour classes on the bike.

mine was similar to this, since it was part of the high school curriculum, but by the time i took the behind the wheel portion, i already had my license, so my behind the wheel instructor used me as an example of what to do(i foiled his original plot to use me as an example of what NOT to do).

I learned how to drive age 13 and never took driver's ed. Got my driver's license at 16.

I never took drivers ed, either. Came pretty naturally.

Part of my high school curriculum, was 4 weeks I believe (alternating classes or driving each day). The class/lecture time was overkill, the driving time was perfect (learned to replace tires, jump start, basic engine check etc which was really cool). If there was one thing I wanted to kick myself for was not taking the class tests more seriously as I found out afterward the class counted for my Graduating GPA (I would've put a bit of time into studying and striven for 100%). While nearly all of my friends and family needed 2 or more tries to get their license, I passed the first time (I don't know why but in my area failure rate for the driving test was extremely high).

My advice: pay attention, take it all seriously, and try to learn as much as you can (driving is not all common sense and with more and more drivers on the road each day, this training is worthwhile).

Drivers Ed wasn't offered through high school where I lived and grew up (maybe for 18 yr olds, but most people got their license at 16 around here.)

I don't remember how long the class was, it was $250, and it lasted at least 2 weeks.

As far as learning how to drive, doing the class is going to teach you the rules. Hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel, always use your turn signal, look both ways before turning, etc.

When you actually get your license though, do yourself and everyone else a favor... DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE. Don't even use the phone while driving. Just trust me on this. Most people do not have the mental agility to drive and talk on the phone at the same time while still being an alert driver, much less text while driving. Younger people with no driving experience are especially bad at this.

Treat your car like a car. It is not a mobile eatery. It is not a breakfast bar. It is not a vanity to sit down in and put on makeup while driving. Use your car as it is meant to be used, with a minimum of distractions, and you'll be a better driver than most teens right off the bat.

It was an elective class, not mandatory when I went to HS. I didn't take it, my uncle took me to big parking lots and the County park to get the hang of it:
