I loved the old 4-bbl Holley Carburetor 600 CFM Maunal Choke that I had on my 1983 Ford Full-Size Bronco with 351W HO V-8 it worked well for me and that vehicle.

This. Find a shop that specializes in Pontiacs and get the original carb rebuilt there. I had my carb built years ago by Cliffs High Performance Quadrajet Experts, and he did an amazing job. My '69 Firebird ran incredibly well after he got done with my stock carb. I had an upgraded exhaust (headers and free flowing mufflers) and changed out the heads to Ram Air III heads, and he made adjustments for those changes as well.
just remember that the problem with the quadrajet is the well plugs like to leak, especially the primary side, so if you rebuild the carb yourself, seal these plugs with some epoxy. the primary plugs look like lead BBs, and the secondary plugs look like smaller versions of the freeze plugs you see in the side of the engine block.
i find this interesting that today people agree with using the old Qjets, back 25 years ago everyone was pushing holleys.
I remember that, as well.
I also remember lots of people switching back from the Holleys to the Q-jets when they figured out that the grass wasn't really greener on the other side of the fence.
