I want to buy one that allows me to connect my mp3 player to it and listen to it that way. FM radio transmitters always have static in my car. My car is a Toyota Corolla 2008.

Just find one that had a USB connection or Bluetooth ( if your MP3 player supports Bluetooth). Other than that you'll just have to look around. There are tons of radios that will fit your car, just a matter of choice and or price.
Because it's probably a factory head unit. They sometimes are part of a big dash piece housing multiple controls not just the radio. It may already have bluetooth capability.
If you are having to ask such basic questions, you probably need to go to a local car stereo shop and pick one out and have them install it.
OEM car stereos have always been odd shapes and sizes, 10 years behind in technology and subpar in quality. Current oem car stereos are at best mid 90's in quality. I had a car stereo system in the early 90's that still to this day would make most systems look weak.
Anyway, you have a double din opening which requires an dash install kit that fills in the extra space around an aftermarket head unit. You can use anything from a lower end single din to an upper end double din. Just find what has the features you want and is in your budget. You could get one of the lower end single din units that are still pretty good quality like a Kenwood for around $100 or you could go all the way up close to $2000 with the high end Kenwood excelon units or an Alpine.
Above post said you should have one installed, I agree. Its not a difficult job but your first one will be a challenge. You can find videos on YouTube for about any car showing how to remove and install.
A good stereo at Best By will run about $75 and up, install is 69 I think, the parts will be about 40. Get a name brand, Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC or Sony, dont get any others like Dual or Boss or Pyle. If you spend more around 100-130 you will get bluetooth, HD, and sirius capability, if you dont need any of that the basic ones are perfectly fine. Get a USB capable stereo almost all are now. If you have all your tunes on MP3, you can buy a small USB drive for about 10-15, then you dont really need your mp3 player. You wont have playlists though unless you use an Ipod.
