Wow
That's a smart angle to look at.

Yeah, to replace those bags ain't cheap.
But I imagine the bag company will have to cover the cost.

Some job security coming ahead for mechanics maybe

I got a recall to come in and have the passenger airbag disconnected. When I did so, I was told that the Federal Safety Board (or whatever they're called) had just announced that disconnection is not allowed. The service guy suggested, "Don't let anyone sit in the passenger seat." (Toyota Matrix, 2003)

No replacement parts available for some time. ? time

Now the recall says that driver airbags can be affected, too, and two of the deaths were caused in areas that were not hot/humid.

I am completely unsure what to do. They really should be allowed to disconnect the foolish things.

I am thinking I should of posted it here.

Airbag maker Takata announces largest auto recall ever - May. 19, 2015
The airbags have been known to explode and send shrapnel into the face and body of both the driver and front seat passenger. Victims appeared to have been shot or stabbed, according to police who responded to the accidents. Many others had serious injuries including vision damage from shrapnel hitting them in the eye.

Most of the fatalities and most of the recalled cars were made by Honda (HMC).

But dozens of different models are affected, most of which were built between 2000 and 2011. Consumers can check to see if their car is included in the recall by going to a special website created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at NHTSA Recalls Spotlight - Takata Air Bag Recalls.
I got a notice about this from Honda a few weeks ago. I guess I will have them replace it when I get the car serviced in July. My notice says the problem only effects the driver's side airbag.

My dad's 2003 Toyota Corolla is on the list. I've told him it's under recall. I've been watching to see if my 2011 Honda Accord or my mom's 2013 Honda CR-Z is on the list, but haven't found them so far.

Not likely, as I said they quietly fixed the issue in 2008. IIRC 2008 are the newest vehicles under recall.

I looked up my car on safecar.gov and found it's part of the airbag recall. Ford is getting me in tomorrow to replace it.
