Best in this sedan class are:

1) MB E class (S class is in a class by its own)
2) Audi A6/8
3) BMW 700's class

However none are FWD sedans, as no large sedan should be FWD for stability and handling purpose.

I am also looking to update and have decided to go with the Avalon. Big change for me as I have had Buicks for many years and loved the 3.8, but now that it has been discontinued, I believe I'll try an the 3.5 Avalon.

The A6 is FWD, unless a Quattro. I thought the OP was looking for a specific price point, with the vehicles chosen, most of which are much less expensive than the premium/luxury marques.

Talk about large FWD I remember the GM monsters the Buick Rivera, Olds Tornado and Cadillac Eldorado. Now those were large FWD cars and very plush and comfortable to drive.

Yeah, those were never replaced. There is nothing like them now. At the time there was not much push for FWD so I don’t know why GM went with that configuration.

The Buick Riviera was RWD.

And I was going to say the same thing... the last truly large FWD cars were the Cadillac Eldorado and Olds Toronado.

I personally like the Avalon. Told my wife I wouldn't mind getting one and she called me an old man.
They are called an old persons car, however while not a sports sedan in any way, the Avalon has lots of power when you step on the gas pedal. I think when cars are bigger and comfortable, they get designated old peoples cars. I like comfort in a car. Call me old! (only in my 50s with two Avalons currently).

The person I was replying to said "GM monsters" (full-sized) so I assume he was referring to the pre-downsized GM cars.

The 1979 Riviera was a full size car with a 350 V8 FWD
