Hi,

I am planning to buy a used car. My budget is around 11-12K. Due to limited options in my region, I have selected below 2 options:
1. 2013 Ford Focus SE - 22k miles - $12,000
2. 2012 Ford Focus SE - 61k miles - $11,000

Both cars are in good condition.

Issue with 2013 ford focus:
a. It has fleet/rental/lease history.
b. It has one reported accident (no head on collision, minor dent reported)

Issue with 2012 ford focus:
a. Only issue is it has run 61k miles.

Now apart from performance, my biggest concern is regarding resale value. Since I am not US resident and will be here for around 2 years more, I will not be using this car for more than that.
So from the resales perspective, how much does the fleet history/reported accident/miles will effect the price/easiness in resale?

I dunno. A lot of people beat the hell out of rentals/fleet vehicles. I would go for the '12 based on that alone.

I dunno, there's only so much brutality a fleet car could have been subjected to in 22K miles. I'd have that one inspected to make sure there was no structural damage in the reported accident. If not... go for it.

I suppose that's true.

I'd go the 2013. The 2012 is just about due motor mounts and struts. They both go about 60-80,000 miles. Regardless, the Focus has one issue you need to be aware of- the power steering pump. It sits just in front of the radiator and cooks the PS fluid. If you change your own oil, pull as much as you can out of it and replace. Keep the fluid fresh or it will toast the pump. Otherwise, maintenance is so simple a caveman can do it.

If the title was still clear I'd go for the 2013. Newer, lower miles, no brainer!

+1 and as long as the damage can be verified with no frame damage.

Which of the 3 is it? There's a big difference between a car that was leased to a single person and a rental car.

Rental = stay away
Fleet = maybe
Lease = buy it

Go for the lower miles, 40k miles difference between the two for only $1k, just get a third part inspection
to make sure the car is on the up and up.

Why wouldn't you just buy a new one for $13K? Seems like an extra $1 or $2K is worth getting a new car instead of a used one. My local Ford dealer has several 2015 SE models for around $13K, depending on which rebates you qualify for.
