It is all about showing off. "Look at me, look at me!" is what they are saying. Pickups are horrible off road vehicles. Also, once you lift them, the bed becomes almost useless because you have to lift product so high. The lower the truck, the more functional it is for loading and unloading. Of course if you have a lifted truck and roll coal, lifting wasn't enough attention. You have to kill kids in playgrounds to make your statement.
Oh yes, they're everywhere in north FL. Lately there is this ridiculous fad called "Carolina squat" where the front is lifted and the back sags down. This seems to be a thing with younger guys and I have no idea why.
That's been borrowed from desert racing and people have been modeling their trucks like that out here for a long time. It sure beats that stink bug look of the stock trucks. I couldn't wait to get a lift on the front of mine to eliminate that hated look.
Trucks are fine for off-roading. They are much better than the new SUV crossover cars masquerading as off road vehicles.
Is there any advantage to driving a lifted pickup? I can see it if you need to install larger tires for offroading, but isn't it mostly done for aesthetics?

You mean these?
A couple of months ago I saw one on the road for the first time and thought to myself, "That is quite possibly the stupidest looking thing I've ever seen on 4 wheels." That sentiment remains.

I mean, why even bother building them with 4 x 4. Just put a fake sticker on it.

Exactly. If you're raising the front to get level, you're doing it wrong.
But, hey.... their money, their truck... it's all good in my book.
I had perfect timing. I was drifting some corners (for the kids of course) and I thought I was going to clear a big rock. I didn't. It sheared one of the leafs . I had to limp down the mt and home. I put a leveling kit of 2 inches back on from rough country that was cheaper than the Ford replacement spring. I'm talking two new leaf springs, shocks, track bar and shackles for what Ford wanted for a direct replacement. No more stink bug.
