I'm not talking about a car "out on the lot" or sitting in the dealer's inventory yard, and I'm not talking about "special order", I mean seeing a car, in the showroom, up close, and choosing that particular car.

Yes, back in 1975 I bought the Hurst/Olds in the showroom.
Yes, my 02 Dakota R/T pickup.
I had searched months for an R/T and when the dealer called me up to tell me he just received one from the factory, I hurried over to see it.
It was in the showroom, looking all nice and shiny under the lighting.
I arrived around 8pm, and was the only customer there. and there was only the one salesman on duty.
After explaining all the option the truck had, it was time to take it for a test drive.
The salesman allowed me to drive it right off the showroom floor, and out to the parking lot, so I literally drove it off the showroom.
I am sure had there been any other employees there at that time of night, he would have taken the vehicle off the showroom floor.
Still have it, and never any plans to sell it.
Presently it has 55,000 miles on it, and looks every bit as good as it did the night I purchased it.
It is no longer my daily driver, but I use it for hauling in my business when the need arises.
Thanks.
That picture wasn't taken when the pickup was new.
It was taken about 5 months ago when I installed the hard tonneau cover.
It use to have a soft cover that came with it when new.
It has been a great and dependable truck.
In all these years I have only replaced the battery, and starter.
Bob.
Bought my first brand new car right off the showroom floor a 1974 Ford Pinto everyone of my friends back then were jealous because I had a job that paid enough for me to buy a new car. Can't rember the price but my girlfriend back then witch is now my wife was the envy of all her friends.

Yep, 95 Impala sitting on the dealers floor. They didnt have the big doors like most dealers have to get them inside, they had to bring in it through the service dept. through a set of big double doors. The salesman tried to sell us a Caprice the same color, that was outside because he didnt want to have to open the service dept doors to get it out. Went to leave since we knew of 4 or 5 others sitting on the lots at other dealers. He had it out in 5 minutes, and we drive it home!
When I sold cars we used to sell them right of the floor. It was fun and exciting for the customer to have us open the doors and push the cars out. We were not allowed to start them indoors. I think it was an insurance thing. It was easy to sell when talking numbers and the client was so close to the shiny car he wanted.
