I really doubt a Land Cruiser was rusted. It only was in NY for 25k miles. I pulled up the Lexus history it had been serviced like clockwork. I saw the picture of the accident, slight webbing that you'd need basically a magnifying glass to find. Teensy parking lots incidents like that don't ruin used cars, this is outrageous. Carfax listed damage as minor exactly where it is.
That LX was seriously nice, and a good price. That could go for 40 now with all the prices jacked up.
I would 100% agree with you that 25,000 miles in NY would probably not rust the Land Cruiser.

Now, 25,000 miles of NY manhole covers, grates, and potholes destroying the alignment and rattling the suspension is another story.
You could drive a Land Cruiser 400,000 miles through Manhattan and it wouldn't mess anything up. They're that tough.
There's a guy I know of that used an LS430 (car) as a taxi service in Manhattan and had over 400k miles on it. He had replaced some shocks and struts, but car was still just fine, drove fine. That's just a regular sedan.
I'm not exaggerating when I say Toyota designs these for the worst conditions on earth, to last a minimum of 25 years. That's why they cost $85,000. It would make mincemeat out of Manhattan streets. Now that I think about it, it would be a great Manhattan vehicle. Quiet, powerful, great seating position. It's BOF, tight as a drum so the big bumps don't shake anything, the whole truck just thunks.
But in any case it looks like that LX was in Westchester County, I guarantee garaged.
That's why people who want a good 4WD vehicle for places with no roads buy the old and real version: the Land Cruiser 70.
Not the Land Cruiser 100, 200 or 300.
The Land Cruiser 70 is reliable because it stayed almost the same from the 90s.
BMWs also peaked in reliability in the 90s.
The LC200 and 100, and 80 were indestructible. I'm sure the 300 is too but it lost the V8 which nobody is a fan of.
LCs sell like hotcakes. Turn on the news, I've seen dozens of LC200s in Afghanistan over the last week for example. They're popular in the desert and ME because they're so stupid reliable.

I turned on the news.

By the way, the Australian guy in the video who praised the Land Cruiser is very fond of his Gelenvagen. He said that he was offered much more for the Gelenvagen that he had bought it for and he couldn't say, "No!"
He says the Gelenvagen was "a stupid price, but it was lovely".

I'm really not sure what point you're trying to make?
That’s all they care to sell in the USA. They’re pure cash cows for Toyota in the USA. People buy Land Cruisers all over the world.
Wrangler? Chrysler and uncomfortable.
Toyota is in business to sell units, nothing more. They discontinued it here because it didn’t make financial sense, nobody bought them. Let’s compare them to their German counterpart, the G wagon. These vehicles hold values just as well.
I'd rather take a Land Cruiser with a tried and true 5.7 into the wilderness over a G-Wagen.
