A coworker was going on how his new car saved their marriage... or at least lets them carpool.

He is referring to individual climate controls... his wife is always cold and he is always hot.

Air Conditioning. I could do crank windows, manual locks, AM-only radio, heck even give me a carburetor, but there is no way in hell I couldn't have A/C.

I have AC in two of 48 cars... it is nice when hot... thankfully, the part of the SF Bay Area where I live is seldom that hot... no one in my neighborhood has Air Conditioned homes.

AC, remote start are essential. Many modern conveniences that weren't standard years ago are now standards, like power steering and brakes. Things I could manage without but wouldn't be happy are: Power windows, heated seats, power seats, a good stereo, automatic transmission, automatic dimming rearview mirror, passenger side rearview mirror, keyless entry, rear defroster, fuel injection (my classic car is carbureted).

Yes the 60's were the good ole days of car buying.

Walk into the dealer and say,

I'll take that coupe over there

Give me the 427 with two fours option

4 speed manual.

4.10 Detroit locker

Power disc brakes

and a radio.

Sir that's going to cost you $2,950

You can tell how old people are by reading their must have “luxuries”. Power windows? AC? Let me add to the list: starter.

Radio. I have to have my radio. I get pleasure out of just driving and listening to some tunes.

I can live without it and have before but I love a good A/C.

I didn't live in the 60s but sometimes I sure as hell wish I did.

I have several cars with crank starting... some have no windshield or wipers or turn signals..

Forward and Reverse is about it... plus matches for lighting the lamps...

Plus horns... brass with a rubber bulb at one end.

I was born in 1955 and the 70's were my time muscle cars galore and the time when they changed the drinking age to 18, Vietnam winding down still registered for the draft though. I had plenty of cars back then living in the Detroit area cars and parts were very cheap, wish I had my 1964 Dodge polar a now. Sure miss driving down Woodward ave. those were the days listing to classic rock on my 8 track and FM radio.
