Typically when a lease company leases a car to a person, which is more or less what you are doing, the lessor (you) titles the vehicle to the lease company (yourself) and the lessee (your mom) registers it. This often occurs in different states.

Yes, that's what I did, I renewed the registration via mail and used the change of address form. At the moment I mailed it, I didn't think it would be a problem, but then I started thinking it might be a problem.

The registration expires tomorrow (11/18) and I still haven't received the registration sticker/documents, which I was going to send in the mail to my mom like I did last year. I haven't heard anything from the DMV either... I am going to have to call them tomorrow to get this all sorted out.

I asked Toyota if my mom could have the car registered in her name and they said no... I even asked if we could even just add her name to the registration and they said no, they said she would have to be financed along with me then.

Update!

I tried calling the DMV, but there was no way to talk to a person... at least I couldn't find a way.

Then I remembered that they actually do support via twitter too, so I got some answers. Here's the full conversation:

Me: I moved to FL. Can a car I own in CA have a FL address on registration? Please help! Thanks!

CA DMV: Yes, you may have an out of state address on record for a vehicle registered in CA.

Me: Great, thank you! And will I receive the registration and sticker in the mail at my FL address so I can send it to my mom in CA?

CA DMV: Yes, the tag and registration card will be issued to the address on the record.

Me: Thank you so much for all your help!

So there you have it. You can have a Florida (or any state) mailing address for a car registered in CA
